Music iLearn@home

3rd-6th Grade:

Hey, Jaguars!

For each day of Music iLearn, you have 6 options!  The only thing I ask is that you don’t do the same choice every time–let’s keep it interesting! :). Love, Mrs. Lucas

1. Go to Chrome Music Lab. Use Melody Maker to compose your own melody. After you are happy with it, SAVE it, copy the link, and share it with Mrs. Lucas through email! (susie.lucas@barren.kyschools.us)

2. Practice the song for your next recorder karate belt. Once it is performance-ready, upload it to flipgrid! https://flipgrid.com/lucasnje (password: recorder@nje)

3. Create a new melody on your recorder.  Upload a video of you performing it to our recorder karate flipgrid.  https://flipgrid.com/lucasnje(password: recorder@nje) Use the “Topic: REComposer) Bonus points if you also can write it out using a 5-line staff so that I could play it, too! Use that as your “selfie”! 🙂

4. Music is a reflection of life and of history.  Pick a song you know really well and rewrite the lyrics to express this historical moment we are living right now! It can be serious or funny–we need both! Email your lyrics to Mrs. Lucas (susie.lucas@barren.kyschools.us) , or be bold and upload it our general music flipgrid: https://flipgrid.com/lucasmusic(There is no password)

5. Attend a private performance of John Cage’s 4’33”.  You can do this inside or outside! Take a stopwatch or timer and set it to ring after 4 minutes and 33 seconds have passed.  During that time, sit still and listen to the “music” that is all around you. After 4’33”, send Mrs. Lucas an email (susie.lucas@barren.kyschools.us) and answer these questions: 1. What “musical” sounds and patterns did you hear? 2. John Cage thought this was indeed music. What do you think?

6. Go on a Percussion Instrument Hunt. Can you find something around your house that can be played by SCRAPING?  By STRIKING (hitting)? By SHAKING? After you have found all 3, can you create your own rhythmic groove? Upload your video to our general music flipgrid: https://flipgrid.com/lucasmusic (There is no password)

Kindergarten-2nd Grade:

Hey, Jaguars!

If your teacher included a Music Tic-Tac-Toe in your packet, just do that and turn it in with all of your other iLearn work!  Easy peasy!  If they directed you to my teacher website, follow these instructions (also easy peasy!):
